Hey adventurers! Torn between a 1-day whirlwind or a 2-day immersive journey? I've done some digging and here’s what you need to know to make your adventure unforgettable. Dive in to discover which option suits your travel style best!

Are you planning a trip to komodo national park and figuring out whether to do a 1-day or a 2-day tour. Here’s what I’ve gathered so far.

Best to book your Komodo tours locally

First off, everyone says it’s best to book your Komodo tours locally in Labuan Bajo. It seems like you get better deals and more flexibility that way. So, scratch the idea of booking anything from abroad. Plus, it adds a bit of adventure to just turn up and see what’s on offer!

Tour Duration

1-Day Tour

This is perfect if you’re short on time. You can hit the main spots, but be prepared for a bit of a rush. If you’re someone who likes to take things slow, this might feel a bit hectic.

2-Day/1-Night Tour

If you’ve got a bit more time, this is the way to go. It’s more relaxed, you get to see more places, and you spend a night on the boat, which sounds like an adventure in itself. Imagine waking up surrounded by the beautiful waters of Komodo – sounds dreamy, right?

Speedboats are quick, but slow boats give you laid-back island vibe

Now, about the boats. Speedboats are quick and will get you there fast, but they can be crowded. If you get seasick easily, this might not be the best option. Slow boats are more comfortable and give you that laid-back island vibe. Plus, you get more time to soak in the scenery.

What to See

Both types of tours usually cover the must-see spots like Komodo Island and Padar. I’m also really keen on seeing Rinca. It’s less touristy and, from what I’ve read, offers a more natural experience with the Komodo dragons. If you’re like me and want to avoid the crowds, this is something to keep in mind.

Tourism and Safety

The days of hopping on a local fishing boat are pretty much over

A quick heads-up, tourism in Komodo has increased a lot, which means the area is more regulated. You have to book through official agents, and they’ll copy your passport for the harbor master. It might sound like a hassle, but it’s for safety reasons. This does mean fewer accidents and a safer trip overall.

Beautiful Spots Nearby

If you’re worried about too many tourists, there are other beautiful spots on Flores you can check out. Places like the Marine Park near Riung or the islands northeast of Maumere are less visited but equally stunning.

Arriving in Labuan Bajo a Day Before

I’d suggest arriving in Labuan Bajo a day before your planned tour to finalize everything. This way, you can scout around and choose a tour that fits your needs perfectly. Plus, you won’t be wasting any precious vacation time.

So, that’s my two cents.

I’m leaning towards the 2-day tour for a more relaxed and immersive experience.
